About Us
Started in 1976, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology(STUST) introduced into several computers and devices and further established the Information Center, supporting the entire network of the institute, as well as computer related curriculums, practical trainings, and research. In 1986, Information Center had changed its name into Computing Center. In order to establish a better environment for faculty research, student practical trainings, and to obtain broader academic resources, the Computing Center set up the campus network to reach such goals. Furthermore, we have built a connection with Taiwan Academic Network Center via National Cheng Kung University in 1993, in order to tie in with international academic network. In 2001, "Computer and Information Networking Center" had been established, and had been reorganized in 2010, setting up administrative and advisory group, academic affair section, and network system group.
In order to accommodate the coming Information Era, in 2000, STUST digitized the administrative processes such as enrollment, registration, and courses scheduling to promote the efficiency of administration. We then further expand such technology to student affairs, financial aids processing, accounting, and human resources. We then set up a series of action to integrate the information of the entire institute. In 2005, electronic documents were brought in. In 2009, we rebuilt the platform for e-forms in order to process all forms online. In 2010, a unified login system was created. These efforts were made to unify the information in the campus network.
Internet had been developed in a fast pace. To accommodate the increasing demand of bandwidth, STUST upgraded our devices from optical fiber to High Speed Gigabit Ethernet. Connecting between the departments with Gigabit optical fiber, the xxx has the ability to speed up to 720Gbps. Campus network extends radially toward the main line, business department, management department, engineering department, dorm network, and dial-up service network. Each department was connected to the main line through Gigabit Ethernet, combining data, sound tracks, videos, and images for the institute. The high speed internet was provided for students and faculties with this set up.
Started in 2011, STUST launched a digital learning platform called My eLearning for building up a IT-based environment in the campus. My eLearning adopted a customized workspace. Students are accessible to all the course materials such as announcements, resources, forums, etc in their personalized workspace. Teachers can easily upload course handouts and other resources to the platform for students to access. Through this platform, teachers have a better channel of communication with students and students obtain easier and more accessible archives. By frequently checking the updates in My eLearning, students are able to manage the course information. In addition, exams can also be conducted on the platform, for teachers to better understand the level of the learning.
